ABOUT GREG ALEXANDER, the man behind Just Passing

Greg Alexander demonstrated his natural affinity for horses, cattle and other animals from an early age, growing up on a mixed farm on the northeast edge of Calgary.  He put that experience to work, running his own grain and livestock operation for 30 years.  Off the farm, he also drove as a commercial line-haul truck driver on the Calgary-Vancouver run through the Rockies.

In the late 90's, Greg decided to put his equine knowledge and skills into designing, constructing and operating an 85-horse boarding facility and riding arena near Airdrie. Later, he relocated to the Water Valley area and built a second boarding/ riding facility.  His custom horse transport business grew as a natural extension of these.

Working with livestock his entire life, Greg has gained extensive experience with a broad scope of veterinary conditions, procedures, and medications. This includes hands-on practical experience with equine first-aid as well as daily treatment and care.

Greg's calm, competent personality enhances his natural ability in handling all animals, especially horses.  He has also attended numerous natural horsemanship clinics, with well known horsemen like Josh Nichol, Jonathan Field, Pat Parelli, and John Lyons.

In addition, Greg was a longtime volunteer with the Calgary Stampede, serving two years as Committtee Chairman.   He is a former leader of 4-H and the local Pony Club.  He has served as President of the Alberta Sheep Breeders Association and the Western Suffolk Sire Reference Association.

Greg's goal with Just Passing is to provide necessary services for other animal lovers in their time of need.  He is devoted to treating people and animals with dignity, compassion and respect.

In 2014, Greg married Carole Leroux and together they became the proud new owners of Hat Doctor, Alberta's oldest hat business, established in 1902.  For a one-of-a-kind custom western hat made from 100% beaver fur .... or to clean and repair your ol' faithful hat, contact Hat Doctor at 403.936.5090!  Greg and Carole have relocated Hat Doctor to their farm on the southeast edge of Calgary.  Look for the blue Hat Doctor highway signs on 22X.

Authorized Representative of
Just Passing in Northern Alberta.

Chuck McKinney joined Just Passing Horse Transport and Bereavement Services in 2018.  He undertook training with Greg on euthanasia and end of life procedures and regulations. He is now our Authorized Representative in Northern Alberta, providing bereavement and transport services as required in the Edmonton area and surrounding communities.

Like Greg, Chuck brings a lifetime of equine experience to
Just Passing.   Together with wife Terri and daughter Taylor, the McKinney family share their love of horses with people from all over the world, operating Wild Deuce Retreats and Outfitting since 2003.

Every summer, they take groups on the adventure of a lifetime, by horseback and wagon into the wilds southwest of Rocky Mountain House. This requires a remuda of over 35 well-broke mountain ponies. Chuck often provides guests with special horsemanship training and clinics.

In addition, Chuck ranches near Kingman, Alberta, breeding and selling top quality horses and cattle.

Dedicated to the equine industry, Chuck knows how important it is to support both the horse and the rider, especially through tough situations.   McKinney is committed to providing our much-needed service to the Just Passing community in Northern Alberta.

George White began assisting Greg and learning Just Passing bereavement services in 2015. He is now an Authorized Representative in the Calgary area.
George shares a similar background with Greg. He was raised on a mixed farm operation just southeast of Calgary. Beginning in his youth and activities like 4-H, George has enjoyed working the land and caring for the cattle, horses and other animals on the farm.

As a young man, George left the family farm to pursue a career in sprinkler fitting. He always returned though to help during harvest time.

Later he had the opportunity to build his home and raise his family down the road from his parents. He established his own mixed farming operation then.

Now semi-retired, he enjoys keeping his hand in farming and his passion for all animals still inspires him. He brings experience and empathy to his work with Just Passing.
